Charlie Chaplin's "The Circus" (1928) - An Overview

The storyline in the film shows this. Chaplin’s tramp falls in love with Merna, who returns his passion. Then, a tightrope walker named Rex (played by Henry Bergman) will come onto the scene and Merna immediately falls in enjoy with him. Why?
